So you’ve reached your 29th week of pregnancy: here’s what you need to know

You are now getting closer to the final home stretch. If you are 29 weeks pregnant, that means you are nearing that last home stretch of your pregnancy. And while you technically still have about two and a half months to go, there’s a very good chance that you might be feeling more ‘done’ than ever before. In other words, you can’t wait to finally give birth and meet your new bundle of joy.

Your baby is growing while you’re glowing

There are a lot of things that you can expect at this stage of your pregnancy. Both you and your baby are growing at rapid speed. In fact, your baby will most likely double or even triple his current weight from now until your due date. That is certainly a lot of growing in such a short period of time.

His size isn’t the only thing that’s changing at record speed. Your child’s brain is also developing. In fact, his or her head might be so big at this point that it’s taking up a lot of space inside your womb. What’s more, the baby will most likely be in a vertical position with his or her head positioned towards your cervix. You might also be feeling a lot of activity and belly kicks, too!

Wrinkles, baby fat and so much more

As far as stats are concerned, an average baby at this point weighs about three pounds and measures anywhere from 15 and a half to 15 inches long. Another interesting fact is that as more fat is being deposited under the baby’s skin, his or her wrinkles are smoothing out. If only the rest of us were so lucky, right?

Now, as far as how mom is feeling, there’s a strong possibility that she is going to the bathroom frequently throughout the night. That’s because your baby is pressing on your uterus, prompting you to get up and walk to your nearest bathroom several times throughout the night. So much for a good night’s rest, right?

Mom wants to clock out

If that weren’t enough, moms often find themselves feeling tired, constipated, and if we can be frank and honest, passing hard stools. Keep in mind that this is all normal as your body is working overtime to give both you and your baby everything you need during this crucial stage of your pregnancy. If you are going to the bathroom several times a day, keep calm and carry on.

Another issue that many pregnant mothers deal with during their 29th week of pregnancy is something that’s called ‘pregnancy brain.’ You can’t remember where you last left your keys, let alone your wallet, your phone, or anything else of significant importance.

Don’t worry, as this isn’t a sign that you are going crazy. Instead, it’s because your hormones are doing a number on your memory as your brain cell volume slowly decreases at this time.

Heartburn avenue ahead

If there’s something that moms would like to forget, though, it’s all of the heartburn or indigestion that you will most likely develop, too. While keeping up with your calorie intake is essential, try not to overeat or, better yet, stick to a healthy diet that is full of protein, fruit, and vegetables.

Something else to look out for is fast-growing nails. You might want to book yourself several appointments in the next few weeks because pregnancy hormones will also cause your nails to become dry and brittle. But again, don’t worry, as everything will go back to normal post-partum. For now, sit back, relax, and enjoy all of the pampering that you can get.
